This Month – Thawing
Winter in the Pacific Northwest this year has been gentle, quiet, and almost unmarked by snow. And yet, even when our world hasn’t been ‘frozen‘ literally, winter still leaves its trace — in our energy, in our rhythm, in the way we hold ourselves.
This month, we’re exploring Thawing: noticing where stiffness or stillness loosens, where our bodies and minds begin to soften, and where small openings invite new movement or awareness. Thawing doesn’t require dramatic change. It might be a gentle release in your shoulders, a pause in your day, or a new curiosity stirring in your practice.

Featured Voices, and Thoughts About ‘Thawing‘
What a difference the length of the day makes in our little corner of the world. Intentions were set for the new year, and now with the longer days I am feeling the energy to nurture the seeds of ideas and actions I wish to carry with me into the future. As a newer resident of Port Angeles, this is my first year witnessing the slow motion daffodil explosion that surrounds my house. Every morning I notice a new little crocus or grape hyacinth beginning to unfold. THIS is the energy I want to bring into spring – an unfolding with grace and power. It’s not just a mindset, the actions of physical body can mirror this intention. As a full time yoga and dance teacher, I have the privilege to move my body every day and I strongly feel it getting easier with the shift to spring. But for most, time needs to be intentionally set aside for unfolding, and we need to make it a non-negotiable. The days get longer, and we are literally handed the gift of time. Perhaps in March you can squeeze in 20 minutes for an evening walk before sunset, or maybe waking up with the sun gets you out of bed in time for that morning yoga class. This is the time of year to commit to your personal growth (learn a new skill or take a deep dive into a subject you already love!) you can do it as gracefully as the flowers, a quiet power pushing its way to the surface with each longer day. –Rosie
Rosie is currently offering Happy Feet, a beginning tap class on Wednesday evenings in March for those looking to expand their horizons! As winter comes to a close, I am reflecting upon how I was able to honor myself and make time for the rest and calm that is essential in order to thrive. I was mostly pretty busy, with parenting, with a job and a small business, with staying true to my commitments and my passions. Even though I am sure I could have rested more, I am still proud of the moments I took to sit in the sun, to listen to the rain or watch the wind, to hold a warm cup of tea or cacao and slowly sip it. To put my phone down. To open up a book that called to me. I am full of gratitude and grace. Those moments have been precious, and I am feeling prepared for the springtime and playing in my garden, as the energetics of nature thaws. -Val

In these times of chaos and uncertainty, when everything feels like it’s spinning out of control,
there’s an anchor ready to ground you—your breath.
Imagine your breath as a trusted ally, protector, and friend, guiding you safely, powerfully, and lovingly towards your most powerful, whole, and brilliant self. With each inhale, you breathe in balance, clarity, and peace. With each exhale, you release the worry, fear, and doubt that have become all too common. This shift from internal chaos to an inner connection to self is what makes breathwork so necessary and vital right now.

Early spring is a time for gentle thawing. It’s not a rush forward, but a soft loosening. I’ve been noticing what melts when we stop bracing and what begins to move again after a season of stillness. If you’re craving space to rest, reset, and welcome what’s unfolding, I’d love to hold that with you at my Spring Sound Bath!
Sink into stillness and let waves of sound wash over you. This immersive sound bath is an invitation to unwind, restore, and realign through the soothing vibrations of crystal bowls, chimes, and gentle instruments.

A Small Practice for ‘Thawing’
Take a moment to notice where you are holding tension.
Soften your jaw.
Let your shoulders drop.
Place your hands gently on your belly and chest.
Take one slow exhale longer than your inhale.
Notice what shifts, what ‘melts‘… even slightly.
That is enough.
